After embarking on a pleasure cruise, bookish young Humphrey van Weyden finds himself shipwrecked amidst a terrible storm. When he is picked up by a passing vessel, he initially believes he has been rescued by kind saviours. But Humphrey soon finds out that he has in fact boarded the GHOST - a seal-hunting ship captained by the incisive philosopher, brutal despot, and utterly terrifying Wolf Larsen. As Humphrey falls in love with Maud, a beautiful poet and fellow shipwreck survivor, he must contend not only with the dangers of being at sea, but also with competition from his cruel and scheming captain ...

Work Description
Jack London's novel The Sea Wolf became an instant bestseller on its release in 1904. Ambrose Bierce wrote "The great thing - and it is among the greatest of things - is that tremendous creation, Wolf Larsen...the hewing out and setting up of such a figure is black for a man to do in one lifetime." The Sea Wolf tells the story of intellectual Humphrey van Weyden's toughening and growth in the face of brutality and hardship. Set adrift after his ferry collides in fog and sinks, van Weyden is pulled out of the sea by Wolf Larsen.
