In this letter, William Lloyd Garrison introduces William Wells Brown, a fugitive slave who has worked for several years as an anti-slavery lecturer. He has been in the employ of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society for the last three years. Although his conduct was exemplary, he no represents the society, preferring to be responsible for his own words and actions. Brown hopes to cover his expenses through the sale of his narrative. Brown has been appointed a delegate to the Peace Conference in Paris by a committee of the American Peace League. In England, Brown intends to expose an agent of the American Colonization Society, who is trying to deceive the public.
