Wood-engraved plates are printed on mounted india paper.

Illustrators include Francais, Marville, Tony Johannot, Meissonier, Paul Huet, Steinhell, E. Isabey, Delaberge and Brascassat.

Engravers include Mary-Ann Williams, Orrin Smith [i.e. John Orrin Smith], Thiebault, Breviere, S. Williams, T. Williams, Beneworth, Powis, Porret, Slader, Wright, Folkard, Hart, Laisne, Best, Vasey, C. Gray, Lavoignat, Branston, Bonner, Bagg, Laing, Mary Clint and Lacoste.

Wood-engravings were originally done in London for an 1838 edition of this title published in Paris by L. Curmer.

MASS copy: Bound in half purple calf and purple linen cloth with the spine blocked in gold; t.e.g. With a green morocco title label on the spine blocked in gold. With marbled endpapers and bookplate: "William Henry Mason". Lacking frontispiece steel-engraved portrait of the author. All but one of the wood-engraved plates are with a tissue guard sheet printed with descriptive text.
