Wood-engravings were originally done in London for an 1838 edition of this title published in Paris by L. Curmer.
MASS copy: Bound in half purple calf and purple linen cloth with the spine blocked in gold; t.e.g. With a green morocco title label on the spine blocked in gold. With marbled endpapers and bookplate: "William Henry Mason". Lacking frontispiece steel-engraved portrait of the author. All but one of the wood-engraved plates are with a tissue guard sheet printed with descriptive text.
