[Deutsch] Ferdinand Hitzig (geb. 1807 in Hauingen, heute Teil von Lörrach im Breisgau; gest. 1875 in Heidelberg) war ein deutscher protestantischer Theologe. Hitzig, ein Schüler von Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Gesenius (1786-1842) und Heinrich Georg August Ewald (1803-1875) war einer der wichtigsten und freigeistigsten Biblischen Exegeten des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts. Er war Privatdozent in Heidelberg, Ordinarius für Theologie an der Universität Zürich und Professor für Altes Testament und Orientalische Philologie an der Universität Heidelberg.
[English] Ferdinand Hitzig (born 1807 in Hauingen, now part of Lörrach in Breisgau, died in 1875 in Heidelberg) was a German Protestant theologian. Hitzig, a disciple of Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Gesenius (1786-1842) and Heinrich Georg August Ewald (1803-1875) was one of the most eminent and independent biblical critics of the nineteenth century. He was professor at Heidelberg, Professor of Theology at the University of Zurich and professor of Old Testament and Oriental Philology at the University of Heidelberg.
