An extended essay on the proper use of white space in typeset material. White space can be the margins of a page, spacing between paragraphs, spacing between lines of type (leading), spacing between words (word spacing), or spacing between letters within words (letter spacing). The books sets forth a general principle of typesetting that the spaces between words on a page should be as close to equal as they can be made (assuming the right margin is justified). The book also advocates the use of only one space after a period, question mark, and exclamation point. (This is probably one of the earliest books about typography to advocate this practice.)
