Historical dictionary of Western Sahara

Western Sahara was a former Spanish colony until 1975, when Spain withdrew its forces; and partitioned between Morocco and Mauritania. Mauritania renounced its claim in 1979; Morocco has occupied the region since 1976. There is a government-in-exile calling itself the Saharan Democratic Arab Republic.
