"This collection -published by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Villegas Editores-, which seeks to capture and make public the Jesuit cultural collection, this year presents the book Iglesia de San Ignacio IIʺ, that collects all the piece of furniture in sight in the temple. In the previous volume, Iglesia de San Ignacio Iʺ, published in 2018, emphasis was placed on the history of its architecture and its restorations.ʺ (HKB Translation) --Page 9. The Church of San Ignacio in Bogotá, closed to the public for 14 years on the occasion of a massive restoration, is a colonial construction founded in 1605 by the Italian Jesuit Juan Bautista Coluccini, and inspired by the Church of San Ignacio de Loyola in Rome. The church is part of the seminary of San Bartolomé in the Plaza de Bolívar, in the Historic Center. The construction lasted almost a century (1605-1691) and is considered a jewel of the Colombian Baroque. Inside there are paintings and frescoes by colonial masters. The book contains detailed texts of the great Altar Mayor and the twelve altars that are distributed on the eastern and western sides, the pulpit and the extraordinary chapel of the Rapture of St. Ignatius, a unique ensemble in the colonial art of New Granada and in the American Baroque. Curtains, mirrors and chandeliers are also amongst the many invaluable objects that the church treasures.
