Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

In this letter, William Lloyd Garrison introduces Thomas Davis to Richard Davis Webb. Thomas Davis will be visiting his native Ireland. Henry Grafton Chapman and his wife Maria Weston Chapman have sailed for Haiti because of Henry Grafton Chapman's poor health; Garrison fears that Henry will not return. There is great excitement in Congress over John Quincy Adams's petition for the peaceable dissolution of the American Union. There was an enthusiastic meeting in Faneuil Hall to unroll the Irish Address. The Irish papers in Boston sneered at the address and denounced it in pro-slavery style.
