This is a story about a young Indian boy, something of an out cast, who through following the command of a dying leader becomes the first to ride a horse and becomes the tribal leader. A great read for youngsters teaching them that anything is possible if you work for it.

August 4, 2019 Edited by Andre Robatino Couldn't be in America since the horses ridden by Native Americans were brought by Europeans a few hundred years ago. Mammoths went extinct long before that. Although I haven't read the whole book, I didn't see any references to location in the book itself.
