MASS copy 1: Bound in blue cord-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind; a.e.g. Upper cover blocked in gold and lower cover in blind with illustration of a seated shepherd playing a horn, with signature: "RV". With pale orange-cream endpapers. With binder's ticket: "Bound by John Gray Edinburgh". With ownership stencil: "Mr. John Watson.".

MASS copy 2: Bound in quarter maroon morocco and Mauchline ware boards; a.e.g. Upper cover with a "Chromolithograph Ware" finish [Cf. Trachtenberg, David and Thomas Keith. Mauchline ware, 2002.], with a hand-painted scene entitled "Loch Katrine". Lower cover with "Macbeth" Tartan. Board edges painted in gold. Spine tooled in gold. With cream glazed endpapers. With plates bound in different locations than in copy 1.
