The preface is signed: John Playford
"A brief introduction to the playing on the viol" and "The art of descant or Composing of musick in parts" have separate dated title pages; register is continuous; pagination begins anew with "The Art of descant"
First edition of Campion's "Art of descant" published ca. 1610, with title: A new way of making foure parts in counter-point. Cf. STC
