Big George; The Autobiography of an Angel
This little parable, a kind of Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1970) for angels, traces the exploits of George, an angel in disguise, from his days in the Heavenly Court to his "birth" and life in the body of a prematurely born infant to his "death" and return to full angelhood. For the short time George occupies the infant's suffering body, he delivers his message of God's great and all-embracing love to everyone he encounters in the neonatal nursery. Ultimately, though, the mawkish and sentimental writing of this childish tale will appeal only to the most devoted fans of Clarence Oddbody and his kin.
