In 2006, Yale literary and cultural critic, Dr. Harold Bloom, recognized as among “the best literary criticism,” Hernández’ critical work.

Cesáreo Moreno and Dr. Sagrario del Carmen Cruz Carretero, the curators of “The African Presence in Mexico” have acknowledged that a significant part of the traveling international exhibit is based upon Hernández’ research. Hernández dubbed “The cultural phase of the Mexican Revolution, 1920-1968” the period after the armed phase (1910-1920) ended.

Hernández received a Ph.D. in Italian and Hispanic Studies from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada; a MA and BA from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, USA. He is a native of Mexico City’s inner ghettos and speaks fluently Chilango, the counterpart of Ebonics.
