Burgin, G. B.

Novelist and journalist.
Born in Croydon, England, George B. Burgin married Georgiana Benington, the sister of a nationally recognized British photographer, Walter Benington*, in 1893.
During the 1880s, he served as Private Secretary to Baker Pasha, accompanying him to Asia Minor as Secretary of the Reform Commission in Armenia.
He returned to England in 1895 and became sub-editor of the humorous journal The Idler until 1899. He wrote over 90 novels and was a Fellow of the Institute of Journalists. He claimed that 'It is much more comfortable to be mad and know it than be sane and have one's doubts.'
