[Deutsch] Georg Moritz Ebers (* 1837 in Berlin; † 1898 in Tutzing, Bayern) war ein deutscher Ägyptologe und Schriftsteller. Das ägyptische Papyrus aus der Zeit um 1550 v. Chr., das Ebers in Luxor (Theben) im Winter 1873–74 entdeckte, ist nach ihm benannt („Papyrus Ebers“). Mit seinen historischen Romanen und populärwissenschaftlichen Büchern trug Ebers zur großen Popularität der Ägyptologie im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert bei.
[English] Georg Moritz Ebers (b. 1837 in Berlin; d. 1898 in Tutzing, Bavaria), was a german Egyptologist and Novelist. The Egyptian medical papyrus, of ca 1550 BCE, Ebers discovered at Luxor (Thebes) in the winter of 1873–74, is named for him (“Ebers papyrus”). Ebers' novels, historical fiction, and descriptive works contributed to the popularity of Egyptology in late 19th century.
