"This is a detailed history of the Presbyterian Historical Society, the programmatic and outreach arm of the Department of History of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The society advises the Stated Clerk on historical matters, promotes the services of the Department of History, and assists in fund-raising and endowment. Its other functions include outreach and education, publications and awards, and special projects.

It publishes a quarterly journal, The Journal of Presbyterian History, as well as a regular newsletter called "Presbyterian Heritage." The society has offices in Philadelphia and Montreat, North Carolina.".

"Both Presbyterians and non-Presbyterians alike will be interested in the human story behind this institution, and Stewards of Our Heritage is dedicated to all those individuals - staff, board members, volunteers, and denominational leaders - whose personal lives intersected with the Society's history to give us this story."--BOOK JACKET.
