First Sentence

"THE Doctrine of the Incarnation is, in whatever way we regard it, one of the most tremendous mysteries ever unfolded to mortal men, and it is only reasonable to suppose that when the teachers and expounders of the Church endeavoured to bring it home to the hearts and consciences of their hearers, they would be likely enough to use arguments of a most varied nature, ranging from the sublime and logical down to the magical and ridiculous."
