Edition Notes

LC copy has inserted 2 letters dated 1906 from Albert W. Curtis of Spencer, Mass. to Chas. A. Flagg on the subject of Charles Rouso.
Evans 38422
"A very rare book, but probably a fiction. The Scanyawtauragahrooote tribe is unknown, except to this writer"--Sabin 22731.
While much of the narrative appears to be imaginary, there is evidence that the writer did actually undergo captivity among the Indians, and that later he lived at Spencer, Mass., where he was known as Charles Rouso.
