Caption title.
Concerns the case of J. Buchanan Cross, a prisoner at the Eastern State Penitentiary of Pennsylvania, accused of forging documents which resulted in a pardon issued by governor Andrew J. Curtin on June 3, 1862. He then presented a petition for a writ of habeas corpus returnable before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania on January 3, 1863.
