Cover title.
"Catalogue of a travelling exhibition of works owned by the Walter Phillips Gallery. Exhibition first held at the Gallery, Oct. 21, 2000-Jan. 21, 2001"--Label on p. [3] of cover.
The work is a series of 26 photographs based on black-and-white negatives taken by Louis W. Shulman in 1923 during a journey from Vancouver to Yokohama on board the ship the Empress of Australia. John Will altered the amateur photographer's images by scratching text directly onto the negatives, by enlarging the images, by printing them on colour photographic paper, and by accompanying them with a part-fictional, part-factual "retelling" of the journey on which they were made.
