Edition Notes
The text of this book was set in 12-point Monotype Bulmer. Named after the English printer William Bulmer (1757-1830), this typeface was redrawn and digitized by Monotype based on designs created in 1928 by Morris Fuller Benton, which were in turn based on the original typefaces designed by William Martin in 1792 for Bulmer's press.
The display type was set in P22 Parrish Roman, designed in 1999 by Richard Kegler for the P22 type foundry. The Parrish letterforms were inspired by the hand-drawn lettering of American artist Maxfield Parrish (1870-1966).
This book was printed on 80# Finch Opaque Vellum paper and has been thread-sewn in 16-page signatures and bound by RR Donnelley in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Brian Selznick's drawings for this book were created in pencil on Fabriano Artistico watercolor paper.

This 526-page book is told in both words and pictures. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is not exactly a novel, and it’s not quite a picture book, and it’s not really a graphic novel, or a flip book, or a movie, but a combination of all these things. Each picture (there are nearly three hundred pages of pictures!) takes up an entire double page spread, and the story moves forward because you turn the pages to see the next moment unfold in front of you.
