When Jeff Wingate finds an injured dog washed up on the bank of an island one summer day, he knows that he is faced with a mystery. But he has also made a friend. As he and the huge dog Scout get to know each other, they become inseparable. Soon the mystery around Scout deepens: how was he injured, and where has he come from? And more puzzling, why is nobody looking for this purebred, superbly trained dog? Jeff and his brother Phil seek the answers to their questions; but inside, Jeff is hoping that they will never find Scout's owner. Scout is the first thing in his life to teach him that God answers prayer. During the summer, Jeff learns more through his adventures with his friends and with Scout. But one day, a curious stranger comes to town. - Back cover.
