The title page is printed in red and black. Many of the specimen leaves are also printed in two colours.

The impression/edition described here can be dated to 1908 or shortly afterwards; the "Revised price list" included (with a separate tipped-in "Special notice. - Revision of prices.") is dated 1 December 1906, but some of the specimens include later dates, 1907 and 1908 (the last on pages [78], [189], [230] and [243], among others).

Issued in publisher's cloth with the cover title "Specimens book and jobbing types, borders, ornaments, etc. and material catalogue H.W. Caslon & Co. Ltd. ..." and spine title "Caslon."

Includes a specimen of "Caslon Old Face ..." (from the 18th-century punches), "Specimens of titlings, news type, and book letter ... ", sans serifs, black letters, "Specimens of jobbing and display type ... ", numerals, fractions, logotypes, brackets, borders, ornaments (including electrotype ornaments), vignettes and a "Catalogue of brass rule ..." and "Illustrated catalogue of printing material ..." (the last two occupying pages [1]-87). There is an index to the numbered pages on the final leaf.

Two of the leaves are double-page specimen sheets of ornaments.
