On 1 August 2008, eighteen mountain climbers reached the top of K2, the second-highest and most dangerous mountain in the world. 28 hours later, eleven people were dead, making it the deadliest day in modern mountain climbing history. The survivors walked from the catastrophe on the mountain into an international media storm with many stories emerging, some contradictory and others simply untrue.
