Changes to the Fourth, Revised Edition

In his review of The Hobbitonian Anthology in Tolkien Studies No. 7, John D. Rateliff attempts to cast doubt on two statements regarding the linguistic relationship between Welsh and Hebrew, and between Welsh and Egyptian mythology. At the time of editing, it was felt that these statements were so far within the realm of common knowledge that they required no footnoting. Mr. Rateliff's comments, however, show that he is not aware of the requisite literature, therefore, the forthcoming fourth edition will include footnotes with cites to two sample sources each for those who would like to do further reading on these topics.

First Sentence

"Bilbo is one of a class of Hobbit first names that ends in –o, like Frodo, Bungo (Bilbo’s father), and Drogo (Frodo’s father)."

Work Description

This is the second collection of analytic articles on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, written by Tolkien scholar and Comparative Translationist Mark T. Hooker, most famous, perhaps, for his application of Comparative Translation to the study of Tolkien in his book "Tolkien Through Russian Eyes". His first collection of essays is entitled: "A Tolkienian Mathomium". You can read the review from the German Tolkien Society's peer-reviewed annual "Hither Shore" here.
