Originally published under the title: The living world; copyrighted 1889.

The two colored plates, numbered 53 and 58 and signed "Avil Co., lith., Phila.," differ from the ones in the 1889 edition.

Plates accompanied by blank tissue guard-sheets.

The illustrations in the text are signed by various artists and engravers, including K. Jahrmargt, Robert Kretschmer and C.G. Specht, among others.
