Little Wing is a bird who breaks out of his egg to find himself alone on an island with a barrel of books. He uses them to teach him to read and write and learns many things about the world and his place in it. There is nothing in the books about what sort of creature he is though and it takes a bird flying overhead to make him think that maybe he can fly too.
