Edition Notes

All text and images are engraved.

Plates bear several different numbering systems.

A likely re-issue of Sturt's original 1717 publication. The present copy includes a frontispiece portrait (not present in the 1717 issue) of King George I (?) signed "J. Sturt sculp." but beneath the image an imprint partially obscured by the frame, "Sold by R. Ware at the Bible and Sun Warwick Lane at Amen Corner." Ware was based at this address from 1724 until 1756. Page II (title page verso) is the Circular table and volvelle for calculating the moveable Sundays in the liturgical year. Each engraved plate of text is surrounded by a decorative border evidently engraved on a separate plate, and printed in a second operation, as evidenced by occasional mis-aligned registration. Other variations from the 1717 issue include different choices of borders, the absence of the profile portrait of George I with micro-writing, but the presence of engravings of the Lord's Prayer to fit on a shilling, penny etc., on the page preceding the Order for Morning Prayer p. [1].
