Oliver Johnson notifies William Lloyd Garrison that there is a proposal to alter the publication schedule of the "National Anti-Slavery Standard" to permit Johnson to pass his Summer weekends making "great excurions into the country" to ameliorate his ailing health. Johnson states that this will require shifting publication from Thursday to Saturday due to complications arising with the printing and mailing of new editions in juxtaposition with his schedule. Johnson states that while he is certain that the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society's Executive Committee would approve the shift, Sydney Howard Gay wishes to consult them prior, while Edmund Quincy simply suggested that Johnson contact Garrison to verify if the latter deemed it worthwhile to consult with the Executive Committee. In closing, Johnson notes that Henry Ward Beecher had preached an excellent sermon the day prior concerning "reforms and reformers".
