Letter written in pencil.
William Lloyd Garrison begins this letter: "It is very pleasant to me to receive the congratulations of yourself and George on the completion of my sixty-sixth year yesterday." Garrison philosophizes on old age and notes a deterioration in his physical condition. He will try the simple remedy for his cold, which contains pepper, that was recommended by Wendell Phillips Garrison. Garrison has declined an invitation to attend a meeting of the New England Society of Orange, New Jersey, because of a previous engagement at the Old Colony Club in Plymouth. Henry Villard says that there has been no improvement in his neuralgia.
