Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
Mary Anne Estlin says that contributions for the [anti-slavery] bazaar have been sent to Liverpool for shipping; they are more numerous and more heterogeneous than those of previous years. There were 535 people, besides four schools, who visited the collection of articles when it was on view; the visitors were mostly the contributors and their friends. William Lloyd Garrison's departure caused sadness. "We have to fight a great many battles for him" with those who know him only through the published reports of his speeches. If Garrison's course is the best for America, "we shall be less grieved at his having failed to enlist the sympathies of many in England who are not hostile to the cause."
In the postscript, Mary Anne Estlin calls attention to the articles made by pupils of the "Blind Asylum."
