Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

William Lloyd Garrison introduces the bearer of this letter, Charles A. Hovey, the eldest son of the late Charles F. Hovey. The younger Hovey is a farmer in Framingham. Garrison expresses his "profound gratification" that James Miller M'Kim and Wendell Phillips attended John Brown's funeral. M'Kim's account of the funeral published in the New York Tribune will be read by multitudes. Garrison regrets not having been able to publish M'Kim's remarks about John Brown's funeral in the last issue of the Liberator. The need for more space in the Liberator for the matter on hand has been overwhelming. Garrison thanks M'Kim for his kindness toward George Thompson Garrison.
