Edition Notes

Holograph, signed.

William Lloyd Garrison thanks Elizabeth Pease Nichol for her letter and its "expressions of steadfast friendship, its hearty welcome in advance, and its proffered hospitality." He has engaged passage for Europe on the Cunard steamer Algeria, which leaves New York on May 23. Lucy McKim Garrison and Francis Jackson Garrison will accompany him on the trip. He gives his travel plans. Garrison refers to Elizabeth Pease Nichol's hospitality when he visited England ten years ago.
