M1 consist of notes and coins issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria plus bank deposits held on current account and transferable by cheques is use to define money supply in Nigeria. While M2 – (broader definition of money) defines Money Supply (MS) as MI plus time and saving deposits with banks and non bank financial institutions plus investments in other financial assets such as Treasury bills, Treasury Certificates, stocks and bonds. M1 focuses attention on the medium of exchange function; M2 focuses attention on the store of value function of money.
