Newspaper clipping from the Allahabad "Pioneer" from February 5, 1886. "The history of a crime" written as a skit spoofing Victor Hugo's work of the same name attributed to Rudyard Kipling. "Wisdom from the East" contains the text of the poem "The Rupaiyat of Omar Kal'vin" published in Kipling's "Departmental ditties".
Caption title.
LC copy has bookplate of William M. Carpenter on folder. From the W.C. Crofts collection of Kipling materials acquired by E.A. Ballard. Has detailed handwritten notes on inside front cover of folder signed by E.W. Martindell outlining the history and significance of this piece. In folder in slipcase 34 x 27 cm.
