Edition Notes

Text is in English and Korean.

"Cheongju Early Printing Museum specializes in early printing. It is built in Cheongju on the site where Heungdeoksa Temple once stood. This is where Baegun-hwasang-chorok-buljo-jikji-simche-yojeol was printed with movable metal type during the 3rd year of King Wu's reign of the Goryeo Dynasty, the first document ever printed with movable metal type in the world. The City of Cheongju opened Cheongju Early printing Museum on March 17, 1992 on the site of Heungdeoksa Temple to show the world that Korea had invented movable metal type and to preserve this precious and very important cultural heritage for our posterity for generations to come. Jikji was officially certified as the world's oldest movable metal type at the 5th international Advisory Committee of UNESCO on the World Register held in the City of Cheongju in June 2001. Jikji was inscribed on the Memory of the world Register on September 4, 2001."--P. 70.
