The focus of this work was to examine the leaching behaviour of an ilmenite ore with respect to iron (Fe) and titanium (Ti). The changes in the morphological features of the ore with the progress of the dissolution were also studied using electron microscopy. The ore was leached with HCl and H2SO 4 under varying conditions of temperature (70 and 90°C), Acid to Ore (A/O) ratio (3.5-90 g/g) and initial acid concentration (5-11M). Less than 50% extraction of Ti and Fe were achieved at low initial HCl, however almost complete ore dissolution was achieved at higher HCl. The ore showed poor reactivity towards H2SO4, with less than 50% extraction for both Fe and Ti under all conditions studied. Selectivity curves were used to follow the dissolution of Fe and Ti under different conditions, and provided useful insight into the dissolution behaviour of the ore.
