Edition Notes

Verse in 116 lines printed in three columns on left half of sheet; first line: Twas on November the tenth day.

At end: These lines were describ'd and pend [sic] by Jonas Clark the captains [sic] friend, who was on board when the tempests blew, and one of the surviving crew. Bristol and NUC pre-56 attribute to Jonas Clark, 1730-1805, but there is no evidence to suggest that the Lexington, Mass., minister was ever at sea.

On right half of sheet, possibly intended to be separated, are Farewell hymn; on the death of Miss Polly Gould (first line: Give ear to me ye sons of men!) and On the death of Uriah Brown (first line: Assist my muse or help my skill)

Place of publication suggested by Bristol. Dated [1795?] based on textual evidence of Uriah Brown's death in that year.

Relief cut of eight coffins (the first marked J W) at head of first title; printed area measures 21.2 x 41.8 cm.

Bristol B6684.

Shipton & Mooney 45242.

Ford, W.C. Broadsides, 2522.

Microfiche. [New York : Readex Microprint, 1985] 11 x 15 cm. (Early American imprints. First series ; no. 45242)
