Edition Notes

Ms. inscription on free front pastedown: "The essay on Spirit was not written by Bp Clayton -- He was the publisher and was supposed to be the author till lately. I should suspect y authenticity of this intelligence should it not come from the Dean of Derry, one of the family. Perhaps he wished him not to be the author. But will this alter men's opinion of Bp of Clagher who have read his works -- such as the Dean of D. knew that he did not write? It is allowed that Clayton was one of the best men who ever adorned any bench of Bishops whatever his opiions were; and that he was one of the finest scholars in Europe."
