"Hydrotreating is the collective name given to a series of hydrogénation reactions to which crude petroleum and various refinery streams are subjected, in order to saturate a variety of unsaturated hydrocarbons present and to remove unwanted heteroatoms such as sulfur (hydrodesulfurization, HDS), nitrogen (hydrodenitrogenation, HDN), oxygen (hydrodeoxygenation, HDO), and metals (hydrodemetalation, HDM)."
