Peter Vibart, nobleman and scholar decides to become a village smith rather than inheriting a fortune by courting Lady Sophia. Peter, of course, is no ordinary smith and his village is populated by colorful characters who dance in and around the central plot. He rescues Charmain Brown from his dastardly cousin, and since she has no where else to go, she stays with him. Charmain is Peter's opposite and the byplay between characters is timeless.
