As Elsie and her family try to help their fellow Southerners after the Civil War is over, the Ku Klux Klan is busy trying to promote and enforce their own idea of justice. Elsie's "carpetbagger" neighbor becomes a target for the Klan, as does Elsie's own husband for being a sympathizer. As usual in this series, though, good triumphs over evil. This is an interesting read, if for no other reason than to learn a little more about the Reconstruction era from the viewpoint of well-to-do Southerners.
