Translation of the French work "Antidote, ou, Examen du mauvais livre ... intitulé, Voyage on Sibérie, fait par ordre du roi en 1761, par M. l'abbé Chappe d'Auteroche," first published at St. Petersburg, 1770, and attributed to Catherine II of Russia, to the Princess Dashkova, and to Andrei Petrovich Shuvalov. Cf. Barbier, t. 1, col. 212; Quérard, t. 2, p. 129.
"In which many essential errors and misrepresentations are pointed out and confuted; and many interesting anecdotes added, for the better elucidation of the several matters necessarily discussed."

LC Copy 1 has armorial bookplate of John Spranger, Esq. Acquired by the Library of Congress in 1867. Last leaf wanting. In LC binding dated 1903; decorative endpapers.
