This book is a celebration of Napier's 3rd centenary, it has a biographycal essay plus a description of his state with special focus on his personal library. There's a nice chapter about mechanical calculators with great drawings. Another chapter deals with numerous kinds of planimeters and other mathematical instruments. It's very interesting to find a description of the old "brass brain" tide predicting machine.
