Illustrations copied partly from the miniatures in mss. 4379 and 4380 of the Harleian collection (which contain the fourth volume of Froissart's Chronicles, divided into two parts) and partly from mss. in the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris. Intended to accompany W. Smith's 1844 edition of the text of Froissart's Chronicles. A companion volume was published in 1845 under the title: "Illuminated illustrations of Froissart selected from the ms. in the Bibliothèque royale, Paris, and from other sources." The two series of plates were also used to illustrate the 1855 reissue of the Froissart text published in 1855 in London by H.G. Bohn. In the 1855 reissue, the plates were bound in at the appropriate points in Froissart's text. Cf. British Museum Catalogue.
