Edition Notes
Selections from Barclay's translation (made from an intermediary Latin version) of: Das Narrenschiff.
"Completed in an edition of two hundred copies in the summer of 1982"--Colophon. There were 50 copies numbered I to L to be issued with portfolio.
Issued in a box, with title on spine: Shyp of fooles / Sebastian Brandt. Ship to paradise / Robert S. Neuman.
"The woodcuts for our Shyp of fooles are taken ... from the original Durer woodcuts in the Basle edition of 1497"--P. [6]. They are reproduced from Jameson's 1874 ed., for which the Dürer originals were recut without change by J.T. Reid.
The portfolio has etched t.p. with title: Ship to paradise. That t.p. is followed by a printed t.p. reading: A portfolio of six etchings accompanying The shyp of fooles of Sebastian Brandt / by Robert S. Neuman ; with an introductory essay by John C. Olin ... Each of the 6 etchings is numbered and signed and has guard sheet with printed caption. "Of this portfolio ... 50 copies have been made ... The work was completed in the summer of 1983"--Colophon.
