Sarah Ashington's life changes rapidly after her famous actress mother is banished from the London theater in disgrace and later dies. Sarah's father, who has been living in Ceylon and has become desperately ill, returns to England to die. Sarah marries the man who has accompanied her father and returns to Ceylon with him to face a series of strange happenings which threaten her life and her sanity.
