This photo survey book of Mennonite Brethren Churches in the United States and Canada was produced by Henry J. Wiens, Field Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the General Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Church of North America and Solicitor for the Conference Mission and Educational Endowment Fund, 1947-1952. As part of his fundraising mandate, Wiens visited and photographed every Mennonite Brethren church in the United States (53 in number) and in Canada (80 in number) over a span of six years. Each congregation provided Wiens with a brief historical sketch of the church, which Wiens used to annotate the particular church's entry in his photo survey book.
