I have had very stimulating discussions with friends educated in the Anglo-Saxon tradition about the contradictions which would appear to characterize Italian civilization  for example, the dichotomy between the beauty and discipline of its art, particularly in the XVth and XVIth centuries, and the apparent lack of order in its politics.
