Plates drawn and/or engraved by Smith; dated Jan. 1, 1804-Nov. 19, 1807.

The plates are copper-plates, as well as aquatint and mezzotint plates.

Plate facing p. 48 (Painted Chamber), unsigned and without title or imprint, is a lithograph; generally considered the first lithograph to be used as an illustration in an English book.

Library's copy 2 is first edition, 2nd issue, with the second state of the t.p., the half-t.p., different state of the dedication to George III signed John Thomas Smith, including advertisement (1 leaf) after dedication, but without Smith's "Vindication" (16 p.) or "List of plates" (1 leaf) after preface.
